Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and even though I personally don’t celebrate this day, I still like giving gifts to show my love and appreciation to the people around me.
I think more than ever, we should celebrate this day this year even in our small little way. 2020 has been very difficult for a lot of individuals, couples, friends, and families and I think that we should take advantage of every holiday and every festivity to celebrate the biggest gift of all – the gift of being alive and being still together.
Check out my list of 14 Frugal Valentine Gift Ideas in case you are looking to give your special someone a gift on this special day.

Candle Light Dinner at Home
One of the most appreciated gifts of all is a candlelight dinner at home with home-cooked meals. Your wife, husband, or partner will definitely appreciate the time you’ve spent preparing for this. It would be better if you’re going to prepare nostalgic dishes for your special someone. Perhaps, something that you’ve had when you first met, or something that reminds both of you of some special moments in your lives.
Take a Mini-Roadtrip
Depending on where you live, and the current pandemic situation in your area, travel might be restricted in your town or neighboring areas. However, if you’re living in places where it’s more relaxed, try taking your special someone on a mini-road trip.
Where I’m at, travel to neighboring towns is allowed as long as you follow the safety protocol set by the government.
You can take your special someone on a trip down memory lane by visiting the places where you used to hang out. Or perhaps, take your special someone to the first place where you met.
Give a Massage
Everyone loves getting a massage especially after a tiring day at work. Why not treat your special someone for a relaxing massage. I know that not all of us know how to properly give a massage, but don’t you worry because there are tons of Youtube tutorials about this.

Scented Candles
I looove scented candles!!! This is one of my favorite gifts to receive. Nowadays, there are so many scents to choose from and I think this gift will definitely be appreciated by almost anyone. I use scented candles at home every time I want to relax and unwind. It does really work in setting up the right mood.
If you’re not keen on buying one, you can make scented candles at home. Again, just do a quick search on Youtube and you’ll find a lot of tutorials about candle-making.
Aromatherapy Diffuser
An alternative to a scented candle is an aromatherapy diffuser. Due to the popularity of this product, the price has gone down so much. I recently bought one at Shopee (Philippines) including the essential oils and it wasn’t really that expensive.
Inspirational Bracelets
Inspirational bracelets would be an awesome gift not only to your special someone but also to your friends and family. If you have friends and family members who are in the process of pursuing their dreams such as becoming an entrepreneur, etc, why not give them an inspiration bracelet. This will serve as a reminder that someone is thinking of them and wishing them to succeed in their chosen endeavors.

Write a Love Letter
I remember in my younger years when writing love letters was very common. However, with the advent of technology, a lot of people stopped doing this, and most of the people I know just usually send a text message instead. For me, giving handwritten love letters is very special because it makes the recipient feel that he/she is very special.
Make a Scrapbook
If your partner is a sentimental person then he/she will definitely appreciate this. Make a scrapbook containing your pictures together, concert tickets, love letters, receipts of your previous dinner dates, and more. Personally, I think this will be one of the most awesome gifts that anyone could receive.
There are tons of affordable scrapbooking supplies available online or you can also make your own using recycled materials.
Custom Pillow
This will be a nice gift this Valentine’s day not only for your partner but also for your friends and family. Choose a pic that reminds you of a special memory that you’ve shared together such as your recent trips or your funny moments together.

Plant Some Seeds
Instead of giving cut-flowers, consider giving packets of seeds that you can grow together in your garden or in pots. There are many available flower seeds online. Just be sure though, that before you buy any seeds, read the instructions carefully. Make sure that the flower seeds that you will buy will be able to grow and thrive in the kind of weather that you have in your place.
Preserved Flowers
Preserved flowers are becoming very popular in recent years mainly because they still look like fresh flowers but they last waaay longer. However, they tend to be pricey though depending on where you live.
You can, however, make your own preserved flowers. Again, there are many available Youtube and blog tutorials online that can teach you how to preserve flowers such as roses.
Potted Herbs
Instead of giving flowers, consider giving potted herbs or seed packets of herbs and vegetables especially if your partner loves to cook. This is also a practical gift since you will reap the benefits for a long time. Again, just to ensure that your seeds grow and thrive in your environment, make sure to read the instructions and choose the seeds that will grow well in your area.

Card Games for Couples
There are so many available card games for couples available online and this can be used not only by you and your partner but you can also invite friends to join the game especially if you pick the funny card games. Some of the card games will even help you guys to get to know each other better because of some thought-provoking questions that you have to ask each other.
Puzzles
I love puzzles! Puzzles are not only for kids! There are also puzzles that are intended for adults. If your partner love puzzles then this will surely be an awesome gift.
Bonus Tip!
Start a Couple Blog
There are so many reasons why you should start a blog as a couple and one of the main reasons is that – it’s like a mini-project that you will nurture together. You don’t have to share every single detail of your relationships of course. You can just share some bits of pieces of your life on your blog.
Some of the most popular couple blogs are about traveling or living a family life.
Another reason why you should start a couple-blog is, it can be an additional source of income in case you decide to monetize your blog.
You can use this additional income to invest and grow your wealth or you can use this additional income for your future trips abroad.

Final Thoughts
As I have mentioned earlier, even though some of us don’t usually celebrate Valentine’s Day, I think it’s high time to take every opportunity that we have to show our loved ones how much we care about them. If there’s anything that I learned from 2020 and from the pandemic situation that we’re all in, is that – life is really short.
So let’s celebrate our existence in as much as we can 🙂
