I love Shopee! I buy a lot of my personal stuff from Shopee as well as my business supplies. Every now and then, I also find some items that I can flip from Shopee. The main reason why I love Shopee is that I get to save money when shopping on Shopee.
If you are located in the Philippines and you don’t have a Shopee account yet, then consider signing up in order to try it out. Here’s my affiliate link if you want to sign up.
As mentioned in my disclaimer, if you use my affiliate link, I will earn a commission to help me fund the costs of maintaining this blog at no extra cost to you.
However, if you prefer using a non-affiliate link to sign-up then click here.
Just to be clear, with or without my affiliate links for Shopee, I do really use Shopee to buy stuff and pay my bills. It’s just an awesome and easy way to save money.
I’m here to share with you guys how you can easily save money when shopping on Shopee.

What is Shopee?
For those who are unfamiliar with Shopee, it is an e-commerce site that can be accessed via their website or via their app. However, compared to an ordinary e-commerce website, Shopee is very interactive.
With Shopee, you can:
- Buy
- Sell
- Play games
- Watch live streamers
- Earn Money
- Pay Bills
And possibly more features to be added in the future.
Is it safe to use Shopee?
Yes! As a buyer, you are protected by Shopee because they don’t release the funds yet to the seller unless you click on Order Received.
I have shopped so many times on Shopee and I had one unfortunate incident when I had to request a refund because my item got lost in transit.
I contacted the seller once the target delivery date had passed and requested help in making a follow-up with their partner courier.
After a couple of follow-ups, I contacted the seller and asked for a refund instead. The refund request was processed right away.
Shopee also has a feedback system that you can use to gauge the trustworthiness of a seller.
I suggest that you always check this out before you buy from any seller on Shopee.
As an online seller, many people have found success in using Shopping as one of their selling platforms.
I, however, have not yet used Shopee to sell my merchandise, so I will just update this post once I experience selling on Shopee.
There are other ways though to earn money on Shopee without selling anything and I have written a separate post about it which you can find here.
How to Sign Up or Register with Shopee?
Signing up is easy! You can sign up by using their mobile app or by using their website.
You could either sign up with your mobile number (which I did) or you can sign up using your Facebook, Google, or Apple account.
The process is very straightforward and the instructions are very easy to follow that’s why I will not enumerate the steps anymore.
How to Save Money when Shopping on Shopee
There are tons of ways to save money when shopping at Shopee and I will list them one by one here so you can take advantage of this amazing platform.
Use Shopee Pay
Shopee Pay is Shopee’s mobile wallet. You can top it up and use that money for your purchases. A lot of vouchers on Shopee will only be activated if your mode of payment is using Shopee Pay.
What I usually do is transfer money from my GCash account to Shopee Pay once I know the total amount of my purchase.
The most common way to top up your Shopee Pay wallet is via Payment Centers or other e-wallets such as (but not limited to):
- Bayad Center
- 7-Eleven
- MLhuiller
- GCash
- SM Bills Payment
- Coins.ph Wallet
- Cebuana Lhuiller Bills Payment
- Robinsons Department Store
- ECPay
- LBC Bills Payment
- Palawan Pawnshop
- RD Pawnshop
You can also top up Shopee Pay via Over-the-counter or Online Payment with its bank partners which are also listed on the Shopee Pay section/page.
Unfortunately, digital banks such as CIMB, Diskartech, and Komo are not yet on the list as of the time of writing.
With the increasing popularity and number of users of digital banks, I do hope that they consider adding these to their list of bank partners.
Of course, if you have GSave (which is a savings account by CIMB and GCash) you can use that to fund your GCash account and then transfer to Shopee Pay.

Use Vouchers
Even if you use Shopee Pay, it does not automatically add discount vouchers when checking out.
However, don’t worry that much about how to do this because it’s not really that complicated to add the vouchers.
Be sure to check the Vouchers section which can be found on the homepage of the app to claim new vouchers.
Vouchers get replenished and there are new vouchers that get added every now and then.
The percentage of discounts varies. Be sure to also read the details such as the spending requirements in order to qualify for the vouchers.
You can also use a discount voucher and a free shipping voucher at the same time if you qualify for the spending requirement.
The free shipping voucher is not always free depending on the cost of shipping. It’s really more like a subsidized shipping voucher especially if you live outside Metro Manila.
Each shipping voucher has a corresponding amount to it.
For example, if a Free Shipping Voucher is capped at P55 and the shipping cost at your checkout page is P55 then you don’t have to pay for shipping then.
If the shipping cost on your shopping cart says it’s P60, then you have to pay then the price difference which in this case is P5.
Please also take note that a lot of sellers do have their own discount vouchers as well that they give to their customers, be sure to check this before you check out your orders.
Watch Out for Flash Sales
Flash sales from Shopee or flash sales from brand owners or shop owners on Shopee could help you generate massive savings on your purchases.
Before you make any purchases, scan the app first for available flash sales.
Play Games
This is one of the features of Shopee that I love the most.
There are multiple games that are available on Shopee and the points that you earn from playing those games can be used to redeem prizes, coins, discount vouchers, etc.
Use Coins
Shopee coins can be generated through cashback (coins back) vouchers, by playing games, watching live streamers, checking out your Daily Prizes, etc.
You can use these coins as payment money when you check out for your purchases. P1 Shopee Coins are equivalent to P1.
When I first paid my Smart Postpaid Bill on Shopee, I was able to earn 250 coins which I was able to use to purchase a few stuff on Shopee.
Check Out Sellers’ Initiated Discounts
Aside from vouchers created by sellers, also watch out for sellers’ marketing initiatives such as Birth Month Discounts,Year-End sales, New Year Sales, Holiday Sales, etc.
Shopee Monthly Sale
This is one of the most successful marketing and sales campaigns that I have ever observed in the Philippines.
Shopee frequently holds a huge monthly sale such as their Shopee 11.11 and 12.12 Sale.
It’s actually very hard to miss this because Shopee does spend a lot of resources on marketing their monthly sale.
They do advertise on traditional media such as TV and also online via advertisements.
During this time, a lot of items on Shopee are discounted and this is one of the best times to shop on Shopee.
This is almost equivalent to the popularity of Black Friday Shopping Deals in the US.
Use Cash Back Apps
There are cashback apps that enable you to save more money when you shop on Shopee (and their other partners).
Personally, I only know and use one cashback app for now, and that is Shopback.
But since I have not redeemed anything yet from them, I will write about this app once I have done so. In order to qualify, you should open the Shopee app via the ShopBack app before you make any purchases.
The percentage of earnings is very minimal, but, it is still money saved right?
Final Thoughts
Shopee has changed the e-commerce world in the Philippines and I hope that they continue to innovate and provide opportunities for both buyers and sellers to save and earn money via their website/app.
