If you have been thinking of reasons to start a blog for some time now, then this is the sign that you have been waiting for.
Before I started Thrifty Hustler, I scoured the internet to check if it was still okay to blog and if there were still people blogging. The reason why I checked is that I don’t hear about blogs that much anymore.
Most people nowadays talk about what they’ve seen on YouTube and on TikTok.
But I was wrong. People are still reading blogs – blogs with valuable and helpful information.
According to Growth Badger, there are over 600 million blogs in the world as of 2022, out of over 1.9 billion websites. And it’s continuously growing due to a variety of reasons.
Here are the reasons why you should start a blog now.
Table of Contents
It Can Help You Improve Your Writing Skills
Blogging will definitely help you improve your writing skills. Most people think that writing skills are only important to professional writers.
This is a skill that a lot of people can benefit from regardless of what you do for a living. Since blogging is a continuous process, you’ll be able to practice writing as much as you want.

It Can Connect You With Like-minded People
This is one of the main reasons why I started a blog. I wanted to connect with like-minded individuals in the personal finance world. I want to improve my knowledge about earning and saving money.
I find it difficult to do it on my own since I’m surrounded by people who have different priorities in life.
I realized that if I start a personal finance blog, then I can use my blog as a medium to interact with people who are also trying to achieve a similar goal – financial independence.
I have been blogging on Thrifty Hustler for around four months now (even though this website has been online for more than a year) and I think I was able to achieve this goal of connecting with other PF bloggers in that short period of time.

It Can Connect You to a Wonderful Community
Regardless of your chosen niche, I think blogging, in general, is a wonderful community. Mainly because once you start blogging, you’ll get drawn to people who are blogging about the same things.
And since you all share a lot of similar interests in life, bonding becomes so seamless.
Helping each other out seems to be the common norm as well. Are you having trouble understanding some technicalities about blogging?
Just tweet to your community or send a message to someone you’ve interacted with and they’ll surely help you with your blogging questions.
It Can Help You Build an International Network
The Internet is accessible almost anywhere in the world. And there are bloggers covering any niche in various countries. Once you start blogging you’ll be amazed at where your blogging colleagues/friends are from.
If you allow yourself, this is an awesome opportunity to experience interacting with multi-cultural groups of individuals.
This is also a great opportunity to be friends with people from halfway across the world.
Having exposure to various people from diverse cultural backgrounds is a great learning opportunity for everyone. You’ll have a chance to learn more about them and they’ll have the chance to learn more about you.
It Can Help You Become Tech-Savvy
The Internet is the platform of the future. And blogging helps you understand a lot of tech stuff about the internet. Blogging is not just about writing.
Although the growth of your blog depends on the value of your content, a lot of other things can help your blog grow further.
One of the things that creates a bigger impact on your already valuable content is SEO. Knowing SEO could help you put your content in front of a bigger audience.
It Can Help You Develop Real-world Skills and Competencies
Blogging is not just about posting articles online. Blogging is about providing value to people, specifically to your readers. Providing value is the foundation of every successful business in the world.
If you can provide value to a group of people then your business will definitely grow. Blogging can help you learn that in a less costly way.
The things that you can learn in growing a blog can be applied to your career (or future career if you’re still in school as of the time being).
It Can Help You Build/Improve Your Self-Esteem
Blogging success is measurable in a lot of ways. You can see the performance of your blog using Google Analytics. You can set tiered goals on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis.
And just like any other endeavor in life, meeting those goals helps build confidence.
Meeting your blogging goals gives you solid proof that you can actually do this. What makes it easier is that you’re not being managed by anyone else which makes blogging less intimidating.
There’s no boss to micro-manage your content production. There’s no specific time when you can write an article.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that blogging is not hard work because it is.
But not having someone boss you around is a huge relief and you can use this freedom to optimize your blogging schedule and only work at the time when you’re most creative.
It Can Help You Earn a Side-Income
Not all bloggers monetize their blogs.
But, if you are new to blogging, know that you have the option to do so. You can place ads on your blog which is one of the most common ways to earn money from blogging.
Or, you can earn money from affiliate marketing which means you can earn commission by promoting products and services on your blog.
These are not the only ways you can monetize your blog.
But for beginners, I highly suggest that you focus first on two things first before you monetize your blog:
- How to Create a Valuable Content that People Read
- How to Drive Traffic to Your Blog
Once you think you have a good grasp of both, then go ahead and monetize your blog.

It Can Open Doors of Opportunities
A blog for some is like an online diary where they share their daily musings about life. For some, they use their blog to showcase their art. Others use a blog to promote businesses.
For most, they use their blogs as their platform to generate income either directly on the blog or via the services that they offer.
When people read your blog, you establish an idea of yourself and what you can do. If your focus is to provide value, your audience will know that by reading the content of your blog.
Your blog can be like your portfolio or your resume if you choose it.
Some bloggers get various opportunities because someone found their blogs on the internet. They were invited to write, promote some products and services, promote tourist destinations, and so on.
The opportunities that a blog can provide are endless for those who are willing to work hard.
It Can Be Relaxing Too
Blogging can be relaxing and therapeutic as well. If you’re a creative person who has a non-creative line of work then you can use your blog to express yourself.
Some people who choose not to monetize their blogs also benefit a lot by having an online outlet where they can share their thoughts and their lives.
I personally find my blog a bit of an escape from the daily hustle of my online selling gig.
When I write articles, it’s like the whole world suddenly becomes quiet and I’m alone with my thoughts even for just an hour or two.
These are just some of the reasons why you should start a blog now. For sure, there are tons of other reasons why you need to start a blog.
