After just a couple of years of blogging, I started running out of topics to write about. I do have other topics in mind but they’re not related though to personal finance which is the overall theme of my blog that’s why I have decided not to write about them (perhaps create another blog for those? I don’t know yet). And if you’re going through something similar, I will share with you some tips on how to find blog content ideas so you can always keep your blog updated.
Let’s start, shall we?

Personal Experiences
The easiest topics to write about are the things that you have experienced. So, in the first two years of blogging, most of my topics came from this. I just filtered the things that I think have value to my readers and are relevant to my chosen niche. To help you get started in finding blog content ideas, ask yourself these questions:
What are the products and services that you use (related to your blog-niche)?
Again, in order to keep the content on-brand and on-topic, I only listed down financial products and services that I use and wrote my experience in using them.
For example, I’ve been a long-time user of Citibank PremierMiles Credit Card and I wrote an article about it to share my experience in using the card.
You can also create a listicle (list article) about similar products like this article – Best Travel Credit Cards in the Philippines. Since I’ve been a longtime user of a travel credit card, why not create a post about all travel credit cards available in my country.
I have also written various tips and tricks about using credit cards since I’ve been using credit cards for quite some time now and I figured, might as well share the things that I have experienced in the past and new things I learned about credit cards.
What are the products and services that you use that are not directly related to your blog niche but can provide good value to your readers?
I have also written my experiences and some tips and tricks in using other products and services that are not directly related to my niche but I wrote it in such a way that will also benefit my readers.
For example, I also write about shopping tips such as these ones:
- How to Save Money when Shopping on Shopee
- How to Shop on Carousell Philippines Safely
- How to Save Money When Buying a Dehumidifier
At first glance, it might look weird that a blog about hustling and making money is posting articles about spending money. However, since online selling is my main gig (I just consider myself a part-time blogger), I use a lot of shopping websites and I figured that I might as well share some tips on how to use these online shopping platforms safely and effectively.
Write about Other Things You Do that Maybe Outside the Niche but Can Still Provide Value to Your Readers
For the longest time, I have been contemplating writing about blogging on Thrifty Hustler because of multiple reasons:
- I don’t consider blogging as my main hustle. As I’ve mentioned earlier, I consider myself a part-time blogger and as of now, I still think that this is a hobby and some form of calming therapy for myself more than a money-making machine.
- Blogging is a very broad topic and it can easily outnumber my articles about personal finance if I don’t maintain a balance.
However, what made me decide to write about blogging are:
- I’d like to document my blogging journey mainly for myself so I can have something to look back to and at the same time, for other people who might find value in reading my blogging journey (perhaps new bloggers, fellow bloggers in my network, or those who are thinking of starting a blog).
- It can be a profitable side-hustle if you work really hard for it.
So, having said that, I have created a separate category for blogging and I will definitely continue to write about it.

Social Media Websites
Social media websites are great sources of blog content ideas to write about. You will have to tweak it though to ensure that the topic fits your target market. I personally use Twitter to scour topics that I can possibly write about.
Surprisingly, Pinterest can also a great source of blog topics. I’m not active thought in other social media websites, but if you are, you might find Facebook and Tumblr useful too since they do have millions of users around the world.
Current Events
Current events are definitely a great source of blog content ideas but you will have to tweak your article to fit your niche and also your target audience. For example, COVID-19 is a hot topic ever since it started. If you are also a personal finance blogger, think about the articles related to the ongoing pandemic that can be of great value to your readers?
Perhaps you can write about:
- Work from Home Tips
- How to Make Money at Home
- How to Stay Productive at Home
You get the drift. Just be careful though in writing about the current event itself as you don’t want to be accidentally mentioning the wrong information. So if you really need to include a statement or two about the current event itself (like COVID), make sure to link reputable articles where you got the information from. And always fact-check as well.

Web Forums
If I’m running out of topics to write about or if I’m just in the process of collating topics to write about in the future, I always check the relevant Reddit and Quora pages. Because these websites cater to almost every topic imaginable, I just go to the pages relevant to my niche such as investing, hustling, crypto, etc.
With Reddit, bear in mind that there may be global groups and country-specific groups. I suggest that you check both so you can have a wider variety of topics to choose from.
A little caveat though, they are full of interesting topics and sometimes I get drawn to just reading every interesting stuff that I will see on the screen. Hahaha! Sometimes it takes me hours because when I’m about to close a page, an interesting topic will catch my eye, and then bam! I’m stuck again for a few minutes. LOL!
Other Blogs
Yup! You can find content ideas from other blogs from similar and even from not similar niche. Every now and then I find blog topics that I think I can also write about on my perspective.
Youtube Videos
Youtube is also a great source of potential blog content for everyone. It’s hard not to get stucked though in Youtube because it’s full of interesting videos to watch.
But if you’re looking for tutorials, etc, then Youtube is one of the best places to find them.

Your Own Blog + Google Analytics
If you want to keep on growing your traffic then look no further and check out your Google Analytics and look at the top ten articles of your blog that generate the most traffic.
- Identify the most common denominator
- Find similar topics to write about
- Check existing competitors on Google and try to produce content that can potentially outrank them
Engage Yourself in Emerging Businesses/Products/Services in Your Niche
There will always be a new product, a new service in town. We, humans, are always trying to make things better, faster, etc and in the process, new products and services are created to address our ever-changing needs.
An example of this is crypto and blockchain technology.
Crypto and blockchain technology are probably the hottest and newest things that captured the world’s attention not only because of the mind-blowing financial gains and losses that have been shared on social media but also because of the technology that can potentially change the way we do things.
I actually saw the news yesterday that one of our widely used local mobile e-wallets in the Philippines will potentially be offering crypto services (possibly buy, sell and hold feature) and I’m really excited about this.
I’m from a country with millions of overseas workers and remittance is one of the sources of income for the entire country. Blockchain might be able to make the remittance process faster and cheaper.
I think we are still in the early stages and I’m really excited for the future.
I have written a few articles about my experiences in dabbling in crypto and I think I will continue to write about it because I believe that this technology is here to stay (at least as of the time being) until a superior tech becomes available.
So always be on the lookout for emerging technologies and innovations in your chosen niche. They can a great source of topics to write about on your blog.
